Super Evil Enters Strategic Partnership with NetEase to Power Cross-Platform Launch in China; Targets Console Launch by Late 2019
Dec. 3, 2018, San Mateo, Calif. – Super Evil Megacorp, the company behind the award-winning multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) Vainglory, is entering a new chapter by opening cross-platform play with competitive parity, beginning with its global Vainglory 4.0 launch, now with Windows and macOS launch in early 2019. Super Evil is also kicking off a strategic partnership with Chinese internet giant NetEase, Inc. to support Vainglory’s 4.0 cross-platform launch in China.
“We believe gamers are gamers on any device and deserve to play together regardless of their native platform or preferred control mechanism,” said Kristian Segerstrale, CEO, Super Evil Megacorp. “By offering gameplay parity across billions of mobile phones, PCs, consoles, next-generation hybrid devices and more, we are building toward a post-platform vision where gamers can play and compete with anyone, anywhere.”
Since its launch in 2015, Vainglory has defined the AAA quality core mobile gaming experience, powered by SEMC’s proprietary cross-platform E.V.I.L. engine. The same Super Evil insistence on console-quality graphics, precision controls, and strategic depth will carry over to the PC platform. Vainglory will aim to uniquely deliver competitive parity across all devices and input mechanisms, letting gamers choose their preferred platform. All competitive esport play will therefore also enable PC and mobile cross-platform play from 2019 onward, with console set to join the fray by end of 2019. ESP Gaming will be hosting Vainglory’s 2018 World Invitational on December 16 in Los Angeles featuring the very first PC vs mobile show match to set the stage for cross-platform competitive play in 2019.
Super Evil’s strategic partnership with NetEase will support the cross-platform launch in China. In addition to Windows and macOS, the company plans to release Vainglory on console later in 2019.
“China represents the lion’s share of the global gaming market, and in recent years has become a cauldron of innovation in the game industry,” added Kristian Segerstrale, CEO of Super Evil Megacorp. “We have a very exciting and close partnership with NetEase to not only publish our title in our category defining cross-platform MOBA experience for Chinese gamers, but to also learn from the local market for our global success.”
“Vainglory will be a defining title for cross-platform competitive gaming, and we are committed to work closely with Super Evil Megacorp for the launch of Vainglory 4.0 in China.” said William Ding, CEO and Founder, NetEase, Inc.
Vainglory 4.0 will be available for free on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android in early 2019. Vainglory 4.0 will feature cross-platform play, a re-worked cross-platform UI, improved communications, new event based game modes and much more.
